In May 2008, a small group of local folk started meeting with the aim of acheiving Fairtrade Town status for Dinas Powys. As part of this process we have been reviewing the level and extent of usage of Fairtrade goods across a variety of village groups - from retailers selling Fairtrade food, toys, clothes, etc. , to workplaces offering Fairtrade coffee or tea to their employees during daily breaks, schools applying for and acheiving Fairtrade School status and groups such as sports clubs, specialised interest and youth groups offering Fairtrade products such as coffee, tea, biscuits, sugar to their members.
There are a number of specific requirements that we need to reach in order to acheive Fairtrade Town status - for instance, we need to identify at least 4 retail outlets that sell Fair trade products on a regular basis and we need to have a representative number of voluntary and business groups that provide fairtrade goods to their members or employees and/or sell it (as several of the churches do) on aregular but occasional basis.
If you believe that you fit into one of these categories, we want to hear from you (we have made contact with several groups and retailers but not everyone). If you want to learn more about how you can get involved in the process please email me at dolwgan@yahoo.co.uk and I'll arrange for someone from the group to contact you.
Thanks
Andy Bowdler (on behalf of the Dinas Powys Fair Trade Group)
